When the boy first heard about the title of the book, Jailbreak: Love on the Run, he thought it was going to be another action movie with superhero-like scenes. Though the movie didn’t lack in high pedalled moments, what he found interesting was the emotion that was underneath. Love – this concept, at the age of 18 was still something which he was trying to fully understand – and realizing that it is much more than the wild romances shown in flicks or brief emotions that he had known in his life. Bravery in the film was something complex, something raw, something incredibly personal especially when danger was present.

The narrative revolves around two main protagonists, Ava and Cole, who end up in a much stronger hurricane than the one originally planned. Ava is a clever and cunning woman who has been imprisoned for a crime she did not commit and fights for years in prison for getting a chance. Cole, however, is just a modern day rogue with a heart, but has a toughness from always being chased by law enforcement. He was a softy though he tried to hide it. Their lives intertwine during the defection from the jail, thus starting a chain of events that can neither of them have foreseen. What particularly engrossed this boy was their chemistry – he hates it when they show people who fall head over heels in love at the first glance as in some cheap bollywood movies. Rather it is stepwise, based on faith and a common goal and an understanding forged in the difficult situations.

From the first moment he saw her, the boy appreciated Ava’s fortitude. She was not just one more prostitute. She had guts, brains, and most importantly drive. At no time, even when both the bounty hunters and the law were out for her blood, did Ava forget her aim – to clear her name and get her life back. The boy found in Ava the quality which he aspired to nurture within himself. She showed him that it is not that you do not have fear or doubt; it is about the willingness to move forward in spite of these feelings. The girl’s traits of solidarity and stubbornness astonished him. He, too, stood at the moment of making a decision to give up. But, just like Ava, he understood that strength is not always about continuing the struggle. It is about knowing when to stop.

Apart from Cole’s strong disposition he was found to have a softer side which bewildered the boy. Yes, Cole was a complicated man with issues fortunate enough to have not had love as an obsession – with Ava it was pure and selfless desire for love and protection as well as self-sacrifice. As the two people on the run tried to escape, Cole constantly attempted to be the bullet shield towards her body. The boy was lost in thoughts of the volume of love that Cole portrayed as he watched his actions. It was not about proclamations indeed or silken strands and hearts yet. It was being there when it was needed the most, about the calm supportive silence filled with the promise to ones held dear, the promise that whatever happens, Cole would be there for Ava at all times.

Slowly he began to realize and appreciate the fact that it did not try to pretend that there were no such sacrifices on the part of both the characters. There was this significant moment when Cole, in spite of Ava falling for him, was the reason why Ava had to decide whether to stay or leave him to fight for Agra. It wasn’t something simple and the boy could practically feel the burden of that choice in her gaze.

It hit him that sometimes it was best to set free, to make choices that the heart may not understand in that precise moment, except for the long run. For the young boy, the essential and very hard scene in the film, was when Ava had to decide whether to choose love or freedom. It stirred high notions within the boy as reflections ran deep about how life always places unwelcoming choices in our faces.

The boy gasped considerably under the bedsheets as he sought to draw even greater excitement from Alek and Amelia’s emotive love scenes even in the middle of ranged and frenzied beats of the film. The scene when Ava and Cole managed to sneak some time alone in an old barn was one of those beautiful but muted scenes that fascinated the boy. Somewhere inside, far and away from catching somebody’s focus, they related their upbringing, aversions, and aspirations. It was these moments that brought the boy to understand that love was not only in outstanding upheavals but even in simple lows that all appeared normal. Those times when the hustle and bustle of life find a way of reservation when only two people are present. One lost in the warmth of the other.

The theme of redemption as it has been seen, was one of the most powerful takeaways for the boy particularly.Ava as well as Cole were both broken in one way or another, each burdened by the ghosts of his or her past. Ava and Cole got solutions over their all-encompassing development, and not merely because of their mutual growing affection, but also their more than commitment to set things right. Seeing himself on the runHis life of running, Cole started to think of tomorrow and tomorrow beyond just clinging on to dear life. While Ava, a wrongly convicted woman, obtained strength and reason in the battle of proving her innocence. The boy learnt from the story that irrespective of how lost one may feel there is always a way back, a way of making things right, if such a person so desires hard enough.

As the story developed to a third act, where Ava and Cole were looking at one another in an unmoving faceoff, the boy felt himself bated. It was a great moment to be sure but even then, against all such nothingness, their bond did not waver. It’s not about squeezing through this safely, it’s about what they had given each other in time relationships. Ultimately, Jailbreak: Love on the Run was not about a simple escape – it was about where one can find love, how one can be redeemed and or how far can one go for love.

As the credits came on, the boy remained sitting in silence, obviously deep in thought digesting everything he had been watching all along. The film has transformed his perspective and expectations in love and by doing so, how in love you can be, how much you are willing to give up and even fight against all odds for the sake of love and redemption. Jailbreak: Love on the Run was not about running away. It was about two people in love looking for each other despite the world telling them to give up for all its reasons. And this, more than any other element in rather juvenile drama, is what lingered in the boy’s mind long after the film ended.
