Synopsis
Nausicaä of the Valley of the Wind, which was penned, produced and directed by Hayao Miyazaki, is a Japanese anime which has matured into one of the most cherished classists in animation. The film released in 1984 is developed, in a far future which is about one thousand years from the present, in a hypothetical future time period of massive wars known as the ‘Seven Days of Fire’ which destroyed the whole civilization. In this world, most of the land has been vitiated by the ‘Toxic Jungle’ which is characterized by a huge population of aggressive mutant insects. The ground and the water bodies surrounding the jungle are also venomous to human beings, while the spores released by the plants are fungus are extremely hazardous when inhaled. This modified world is as a consequence of man’s neglect of the environment, introduction of toxic substances and even war, giving rise to a strong message touching on environmental preservation and existence.
Standing out among this pollution is the Valley of the Wind, a small, peaceful kingdom where the inhabitants — humans — have learned to stay out of the jungle while using the wind from their valley to stave off the deadly spores. This is where Nausicaä, the valley’s young princess, resides. Most people, in contrast to many other inhabitants in this world, are very compassionate and curious, fully having the love for nature. Nausicaä is aware of the dangers of the jungle, but has no desire to destroy it; instead, she wishes to unearth its mysteries. Nausicaä feels differently towards the Ohmu — giant, dolichocephalic armored insects with high intelligence and an intricate social structure — and a limited number of them.
The intensity of the war rises especially when the two nations, Pejite and Tolmekia, enslave themselves to the hunger of wars. The Tolmekians, under the rule of the fearsome, Princess Kushana, would want to deploy the ancient biological weapon that is a Giant Warrior, which would help them dust the toxic jungle for expansion of their territories. The conflict comes back to the forefront when Nausicaä and her people are dragged to the war after a Tolmekian vessel carrying the dormant Giant Warrior crashes in the Valley of the Wind. She is in a battle with the Tolmekian forces who seek to conquer her valley for the purpose of reviving the Giant Warrior in order to obliterate the jangle and establish their dominance.
Nausicaa moves through dangerous places, learns fierce battle, and endangers her life in search of a non-violent method. In her quest, she comes to understand the poisonous jungle as nature’s mechanism which filters the dirty world. The toxic plants of the jungle thrive only in the polluting plants, but when the pollution goes away, they suggest that the earth will be clean once again. Empowered by this truth, Nausicaa resolves not to let the jungle get devastatively destroyed and persuades the fighting sides to stop exchanging the hate, all at the time herself showing love, bravery and appreciate towards all life forms. In the end, all these attributes contribute to a strong character who is a savior in the making by changing the impression for mankind and the nature positively.

Themes and Messages
Nausicaä of the Valley of the Wind portrays itself with messages of peace, conservation, and how everything in the world is connected. Miyazaki portrayed The Toxic Jungle as nature’s ability to thrive in the most effective and wonderful ways, but also pointing at the darker and dangerous side that nature has. The movie emphasizes that the aim of mankind should not be to subdue nature but to learn how to live with it, and it is Nausicaa who exemplifies this belief. She seems to be gentle and respectful to every living being, while her opponents, the Tolmekians, resort to violence and war, which makes the filmmaker’s stance on wars more understandable.
The character of Nausicaä embodies the possibility of understanding between the culture of human civilization and the culture of nature. Nausicaa’s love for nature leads her to the conclusion that Mankind’s salvation lies in comprehension of the ecosystems and the order they share with other living organisms. Her relationship with the Omhu, quite a distrusted race, is an example of the bond that should exist between human beings and nature –of trust. She proves that it is indeed possible to bring about peaceful coexistence with nature as long as human beings are educated enough to learn from her rather than abuse her.
On the other hand, the fury of the Tolmekians endeavors to seize the Giant Warrior depicts a oppositional factor of the Nausicaa’s version that clearly extends the context to warfare and technological supremacy. The representations in the film seem to suggest that such violence and pride are what brought about the destruction of the world in the first place, and repeating these mistakes will only lead to the destruction of even more.
Animation and Artistry: The artwork in the film will completely bear witness to and appreciate the talents and vision of the character designed of Miyazaki. These stunning episodes focus on the hardships and goodness of Nausicaä, eliciting a feeling of wonder through mix elements of fiction and realism.
